MoBILITY

Our products support elderly people and people with mobility limitations in staying active or extending their mobility. We offer customised aids for different levels of limitations, so that they can carry on with their social lives without being limited. Our aim is to give them their mobility back and let them have some "drive" back in their lives.

SENIOR MOBILITY

For elderly people, senior mobility means not only being more mobile or fitter but also means feeling healthier. It also means being able to stay in contact with others. Because those who can go shopping, walking, or visiting stay in touch with their fellow humans and environment, and have a "social life" in the truest sense.

STAYING MOBILE IN OLD AGE BRINGS MANY ADVANTAGES:

1. Greater quality of life through social contacts

Social contacts are an important factor for an individual’s wellbeing. Because withdrawal and isolation also have an impact on the mental health of people with limited mobility. Mobility in old age does not just mean a healthier body but plays an important role in your quality of life.

2. Freedom and independence

Many people are often on the move, physically active, travel often or have a variety of hobbies. They have self-determination in their lives and want to stay independent for as long as possible. Those who suddenly are no longer able to manage their daily lives, due to physical limitations, often feel like a burden. Before circumstances need to be changed or they ask for help, some needs and wishes are put on the back burner. With medical aids, elderly people can maintain their freedom and independence for longer.

3. The vicious cycle of a lack of movement is broken

Individuals who are limited in their mobility are more likely to stay at home, hold themselves back and therefore move less and less. The awful result: They become less mobile and prefer not to leave the house. People who do not have regular visits end up with isolation slowly creeping up on them and become lonelier. A vicious cycle which must be broken.

4. Those who are physically mobile will remain physically mobile

Movement in old age does not just help to counteract chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, or arthrosis. It has been proven that physical fitness is essential for mental fitness. Because physical health also favours mental performance. Which, in turn, helps prevent physical and mental functions from falling into disrepair.

There are therefore many reasons for staying mobile even in old age. And if you can't manage alone anymore, then aids such as rollators, wheelchairs, walking frames or simple sticks are the right supports and assistants.

ROLLATORS FROM DRIVE DEVILBISS

A rollator – also known as a walking frame – is a mobile walking support that consists of a support frame equipped with four wheels and a handrail or two handles, including brakes. Rollators are used as supports by people with a fear of falling, balance problems or difficulties when walking or standing. They help people with everyday things, like shopping, going for walks or moving around the house. They can also be used as resting places for a break.

Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare has a large selection of different rollators available.

Classic Rollators: Standard Rollators

A standard rollator is a robust, cost-effective solution that is usually made from aluminium or steel tubes. It is a medically prescribed aid.

Lightweight Rollators

Lightweight rollators are very light, but still stable and safe. They are made of carbon or aluminium and are foldable or collapsible. Because of the light weight, they are not just easy to carry or move over obstacles, but they also make it possible to cover longer distances without fatigue occurring.

Indoor rollators are designed exclusively for use indoors Thanks to the secure storage option of a tray, indoor rollators can also be used as mobile side tables. They are often narrower so that they can fit through any internal doors.

Three-wheel rollators are more mobile and easier to swivel than rollators with four wheels, and need less space. They are suitable for people who still have enough strength and body stability. They enable you to move quickly, and mean that you can be agile and flexible.

Special Rollators

Special rollators cover specific requirements or needs. So we have rollators for children, which are smaller in proportion and are more colourful. Rollators with a wider and more stable structure offer safety and mobility, even with heavy loads. They are designed for people with higher weights and are tailored to suit their needs.

Which rollator is the best?

The best rollator is pointless if it does not meet the user's needs and requirements. For this exact reason, there are many different designs and models, all designed for different purposes.

When choosing a rollator, you should therefore take plenty of time and try out several models. Specialist shops are the best option in this case. Healthcare supply shops will help you to find the most suitable rollator for you or your loved ones.

WHEELCHAIRS FROM DRIVE DEVILBISS

Not all wheelchairs are the same. There are countless wheelchair variants that can be adapted to suit a wide variety of needs. Depending on disability, size, weight, or where and for what purpose it is most likely to be used, there are appropriate designs and models.

What type of wheelchairs does Drive DeVilbiss offer?

Standard wheelchairs are created for mainstream use and are therefore more cost-effective than special models. They have an aid number and are prescribed by doctors. Most wheelchair frames are made of steel.

For people with disabilities, who can move and want to keep moving themselves, there is an alternative to the standard wheelchair in the form of a lightweight wheelchair. These can be pushed particularly easily by one person, or moved using hand rims or “scooting" by the user themselves.

Those who need support with pushing a wheelchair will love the PowerStroll wheelchair pushing aid. This supports the assistant with up to 6 km/h of power when pushing. It is easily mounted on the bottom of the wheelchair.

SCOOTERS FROM DRIVE DEVILBISS

E-scooters are becoming more and more popular. They are a key part of many households in the Netherlands. Practical scooters are also gaining ground in Germany. There are good reasons for this: An E-scooter gives the user a new quality of life, makes daily living easier, gives freedom back and enables extremely comfortable movement – and, at up to 15 km/h, very speedy movement as well.

TRANSPORT CHAIRS

The properties that best describe transport chairs are flexible, foldable and light. There are two notable advantages for these mobility aids:

1. Transport chairs are the ideal holiday companion

Travelling can sometimes be very stressful for people who have difficulties with walking. From one platform to another. From check-in to boarding. From the carpark to the ship. From the hotel to the nearest ice-cream shop. From cars to getaway destinations. Transportation chairs are the perfect holiday companion

A particular highlight: The Travelite from Drive DeVilbiss. This ideal travel partner for cars, aeroplanes, buses or trains comes folded in a practical carrier bag with transport rollers. The transport chair is ready for use in no time at all with just a few steps. Despite its light weight of only 9.3 kg, it is stable, comfortable and offers pleasant comfort, thanks to a soft seat and backrest. Thanks to its compact dimensions, it fits through every door. The transportation chair can be used both indoors and outdoors.

2. Transport chairs are perfect for day-to-day life

They are great supports for anyone who can no longer cover longer distances, or who is currently immobile. Going on a short shopping trip with Granny or to the doctor with Granddad? Transportation chairs are incredibly practical and can used anywhere.

WALKING FRAMES BY DRIVE DEVILBISS

A walking frame offers people with impaired mobility great safety while walking, thanks to its support function. It is mainly intended for indoor use and is used if walking with a rollator is too unsafe. Unlike rollators, they also offer the advantage of being easy to “lift" over door thresholds.

Walking frames have adjustable heights and support walking and standing training. They are often used after accidents or by stroke patients who are slowly learning to walk again.

There are two types of walkers

1. Fixed walkers
must be entirely lifted and moved with every step while walking.

2. Reciprocal walkers
can alternatively be moved to the left and to the right, depending on the step. Some models, such as the Ready Set Go travel walking frame, have rollers at the front instead of rubber caps and make this reciprocal movement easier.

CANES FROM DRIVE DEVILBISS

Sticks are one of the oldest aids and were even used in ancient Egypt. Even today, archaeologists are still discovering walking sticks as burial objects during excavations. In the Middle Ages, walking sticks were not just used as walking aids, but also as protection against highwaymen and wild animals. They were therefore weapons and supports in one. In the Baroque period, walking sticks were often genuine ornaments and reflected the owner's social status. Sometimes they were richly decorated with expensive precious stones and metals. The more elegant and valuable the stick, the higher the status.

Walking canes as relief when walking

If walking becomes increasingly difficult for elderly people, the solution doesn't always have to be a rollator. Sometimes, a walking cane is enough for the time being.

Of course, sticks that are used as a walking aid cannot be compared to the accessories of the Baroque society. These ones are mainly about function, safety and ergonomics. A walking cane does not only act as a support, but should also relieve part of the skeleton at the same time, protecting the joints in the legs.

Walking cane can be used both indoors and on the streets without any problems. They have slip-proof rubber feet and a safe, ergonomic handle.

It is very important that the length of the walking cane is adapted to the height of the person with limited mobility. All walking sticks by Drive DeVilbiss therefore have adjustable lengths.
