Tips for the summer: Keep cool in hot weather

Summer is finally here, bringing joy and vitality to our everyday lives with its sunshine and long days. But while many of us enjoy the sun, high temperatures can also quickly become a burden. It's important to know how to deal with the heat so that you can still enjoy the summer to the full. Whether you're working, relaxing or traveling - with the right tips, you can easily cope with the hot days and stay cool at all times. Below we have put together some practical tips to help you survive the summer heat safely and comfortably.

1. Drink enough water

As always, drinking water is the be-all and end-all on hot days. It's best to keep drinking small amounts of water, even if you don't feel thirsty, to avoid dehydration. A tip: add a few slices of lemon or mint to your water to make it more refreshing.

2. Wear light, light-colored clothing

You are well advised to wear breathable clothing made of cotton and linen on hot days. Light-colored clothing reflects the sun's rays and therefore absorbs heat better than dark clothing.

3. Use sun protection

Wear headgear to avoid direct sunlight. Protect your eyes with sunglasses and your skin with a high SPF sunscreen. Remember to reapply sunscreen regularly, especially when swimming or sweating.

4. Go to cool places

Avoid intense physical exertion during the hottest hours between 11am and 4pm and seek out cool places. Use fans, for example, to enjoy a welcome cool down.

5. Eat light meals

Heavy, greasy meals put additional strain on the body in addition to the heat. Eat light meals. Pro tip: For a particularly refreshing treat, place a watermelon in the fridge for 30 minutes before eating.

6. Carry an emergency contact with you

Always carry a card with your emergency contact in case of an emergency. This person should know about any medication you are taking and similar things such as allergies so that they can act quickly in an emergency.

7. Tips for traveling

Traveling in high temperatures can be a particular challenge for people with disabilities Plan your trips so that you avoid strenuous activities during the hottest hours of the day. Look for accessible accommodation and means of transportation that are air-conditioned.
